Review: Fifth South Anniversary Inn, Salt Lake City

Monday, June 28, 2010

I was asked to stay as a complimentary guest at the 5th South Anniversary Inn in Salt Lake to see what I thought about their newly renovated suites. Since I am already a fan of the Anniversary Inn brand and a night away with Jonathan is rare, I happily accepted.

Their Fifth South location is lovely. It's right by the University of Utah and a quick drive from Trolley Square. It was originally the manufacturing facility for the Old Salt Lake City Brewery Company and the history buff in me was delighted to find out that it was once a Prohibition-era speak-easy that was also the headquarters for the notorious James Gang.

There are 36 luxury themed suites at this location. You can choose heavily themed, fun-filled rooms like the Swiss Family Robinson house that has the bed in a tree house to the lighter themed suites like we chose to stay in:The Palace Suite.

It was beautiful.

The room was large, yet cozy. I specifically selected this suite to try the king sized Intelli-Gel® bed by MyComfort.

While my husband felt the bed was a bit soft for his preference (he thinks a cement slab has too much give) the mattress was PERFECT for me; soft, yet supportive. There was a plentiful selection of pillows and the linens were high quality. It was a delight to crawl up under the sheets after a long day of shopping, dining and fun.

The TV was big and the surround sound stereo was a fabulous thing to use while soaking and showering in a huge tub complete with a ceiling mounted shower head (which was a really fun and nice touch).
I'm also a total sucker for fireplaces and this one provided some really nice ambiance for the two of us. (Complimentary cheesecake, chocolate and sparkling cider didn't hurt that, either!)

The staff was WONDERFUL, so gracious and happy to provide service. There was a selection of after-hours snacks that came in handy after a long night of playing around in the city. The cheese and fruit platter that we ordered hit the spot perfectly at 1am!

Breakfast was hot, on time and delicious. Really, the only drawbacks of this location are that it can be a bit tricky to find and that there are lots (and lots) of stairs that you have to haul your luggage up.

Other than that?

It is a perfect location for a honeymoon, special occasion or just a night to be alone with your honey for a romantic get-away.

Two thumbs up for certain.
