This is one of my favorite people. Her name is Michelle.
(I'm protective of her privacy and honestly...this is my favorite photo of us anyway)
My first memory of my friend, Chelle, is when we were at a board meeting for our school's Parent Organization. I was President and was about to call the meeting to order when I got caught up in her conversation with a woman to my left. She was relating a story about taking her cranky children to a filthy, crowded McDonald's in California and slamming her hands down on the table and yelling, "SERENITY NOW!"
And really, who wouldn't want to be friends with someone like that?
I marked on her multiple times after that and one day, not long after the passing of my infant son 6 years ago, she showed up on my porch and asked if she could take me to lunch. And through ups, downs, and many trials and fabulous times, we have been friends ever since.
Michelle is my polar opposite in many ways.
The yin to my yang.
The peanut butter to my jelly.
Where I see the devil in them, she finds heaven in the details.
She is structured, orderly, driven and responsible.
I am laid-back, chaotic, spontaneous, and vividly imaginative.
She thinks she can be boring, I think I can be crazy. (Neither of us agree with the other.)
We both DEEPLY admire and appreciate the things in the other that we lack ourselves.
It makes us work as an amazing, awesome team.
We have pulled of magical things together because we fill in the gaps where the other is either lacking or struggling. We are particularly stellar at pulling off any kind of party. She does things like makes sure we have details like good flow and set up and I am wicked awesome at artfully arranging fruit platters.
Sure, we have our issues, what two people don't? Our friendship has had peaks and valleys, ups and downs, hots and colds. But she knows my secrets and I know hers.
I love her just as she is.
She's grand.
I'm awfully glad she's around.
